About this ebook

A primer on different approaches to coaching lacrosse with a particular focus on player- or athlete-centred coaching. Taylor guides readers through techniques like technical and self-reflection; behavioural, cognitive, and constructivist coaching approaches; strength and conditioning routines; developing coaching philosophies; and more. At the core of the text is a push to move away from authoritative coaching to a more communicative, self-reflective coaching that connects with athletes and thinks about their short-and long-term goals. The use of demonstrative characters, like “Bob,” who represents traditional approaches to coaching, and storytelling to demonstrate the text’s concepts is a central part of Taylor’s approach.

About the author

Travis Taylor has been involved in the sport of lacrosse as a player, coach, manager, and author. Growing up in the lacrosse ‘hotbed’ of New Westminster, Canada, Travis was taught to understand the sport from a variety of different perspectives. As a coach, Travis traveled the world coaching various youth teams, university programs and national teams across the UK, Europe and Asia. This experience combined with a more formal education at Loughborough University in England led him away from a more traditional coach-centred style of coaching to a athlete-centred approach.

Taylor lives in Tokyo, Japan, with his family.
