It is in this context that the present book makes a comprehensive in ASEAN countries Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, of SMEs is studied with special focus on growth in out put and number of units, export growth, subcontracting and supporting industries, and development of clusters. The major constraints in the development of SMEs have also been dealt with.
Tulus Tambunan is Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Trisakti, Jakarta. He has researched and taught in the fields of Indonesian economy, economic development, poverty, international economy, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). His current research interests include development of SMEs, poverty, especially the role of agriculture for poverty alleviation in developing countries. Currently, he is the director of Center for Industry and SMEs Studies in the same university. In the past few years he has published many articles on SME in a number of international journals, including Journal of International Entrepreneurship, Asian Journal of Social Science, Journal of Rural Development, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. Currently, he is a member of editorial board and a reviewer for a number of international business journals such as the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship, the Journal of Asian Business, the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, and the African Journal of Business and Management.
