 This book presents a comprehensive account of upland rice cultivation in different states of India. Upland rice system is considered as most diverse of all rice systems and each states of the country grow different varieties under a range of management conditions and cropping patterns. The 23 chapters in the book consolidate and share the knowledge on rainfed upland rice cultivation practiced in different states. It analyzes the upland rice agro-ecosystem in different states and encompasses various aspects of integrated nutrient management, pest management, varieties available and newer technologies introduced for adoption by farmers to improve the productivity of this fragile ecosystem.

R.K. Singh: Principal Scientist, CRURRS, CRRI. A reputed Soil Scientist with more than 25 years of experience in upland rice research. He has published many papers in international and national journal and visited several countries in south and south-east Asia under the collaborative research program. He is specialised in farmers' participatory research, targeting farmer's strength and requirement.

N.P. Mandal

N.P. Mandal: Senior Scientist, CRURRS, CRRI. A Plant Breeder with more than a decade of experience, he has contributed significantly to upland rice research by developing a number of drought tolerant rice varieties and also published many papers in international and national journal to his credit.

C.V. Singh

C.V. Singh: Senior Scientist, CRURRS, CRRI. An Agronomist with more than 25 years of experience in upland rice research. He has published many papers in international and national journal and visited several countries in south and south-east Asia under the collaborative research program.

Anantha M.S.

Anantha M.S.: Scientist, CRURRS, CRRI. A young Plant Breeder working on marker assisted selection for weed competitiveness and root traits in upland rice. His researches are focussed on developing weed suppressive and drought resistant upland rice varieties.
