Información sobre este eBook

Utopia is a fascinating novel that tells the story of a visitor to a distant island home to a community that has established an ideal society. Based on harmony, justice, rationality, virtue, equality and the pursuit of happiness, it presents a sharp contrast with sixteenth century England. This remarkable novel is complex, insightful and far-sighted, and has, for centuries, been of great interest to scholars, politicians, writers and readers who have sought to untangle its mysteries and bring to life their own utopias.

Acerca del autor

Thomas More (1779-1852) was one of the most influential figures in Tudor England. A lawyer, philosopher, statesman, author, judge and prominent humanist, he was a key advisor to Henry VIII but lost the king's trust - and his life - through his opposition to the Reformation. He was later canonised as a saint by the Catholic church.

This edition contains the 1684 translation by Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715). Burnet was a Scottish philosopher and historian fluent in several languages and was most famous for his magnum opus, the three-volume History of the Reformation.
