Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver-blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction.

One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

I had really high hopes for this and it really did have my attention especially in the first quarters of the book... but it was surprisingly just all a story of politics, and all throughout the story Mare (the main character) was weak and foolish, she never wins, her newfound powers were unused and meant nothing for most of the book, making for not much but pity porn and a stressful read. 2 stars at least for the good premise and beginning.

It was okay. The action parts could have been more actiony (if you know what I mean) and the plot twists more..twisty. I think that it had real potential, but it was written to much like a movie. I only give it 3 stars because I could guess almost everything that was gonna happen. It was an okay book. If you are looking for a very good short read Silver-5 stars. Or a good series read Shatter Me-4.5 stars. I would say..probably about 95% of people think this book is absolutly AMAZING.

Absolutely loved it. Brilliant story, enchanting adventure of power, strength, greed and fear. I can see this becoming a movie or a tv show soon. A world ruled by blood, quite a contrast to our world which is in essence is ruled by money. She pulls some beautiful yet frightening similars between this world and Mare's World. This little lightning girl is now one of my favorite heroines of all time.
