À propos de cet ebook

Set in South Africa of the early 1990s, this military thriller has fascist ultraconservative Afrikaners staging a coup and taking over the Pretoria government. The new government then re-institutes apartheid and invades bordering Namibia. A Communist counterforce led by the Cubans is mounted, as internal revolt and harsh suppression breed domestic chaos. A Boer nuclear attack on the Cubans is answered by nerve gas from the Cubans. A daring raid by US Rangers destroys the Afrikaner weapons before they can be used again, while U.S. and British ground forces restore order after much fighting and destruction.

“The techno-thriller has a new ace, and his name is Larry Bond.”

—Tom Clancy, Author of “Clear and Present Danger”

“Military adventure on grand scale … and intricate and compelling thriller that is pure Bond in great form. Larry Bond has proven himself the master of military adventure.”

—Clive Cussler, Bestselling author of “Dragon”

“Techno-thriller fans rejoice! Larry Bond is good – very, very good. I started sweating on the first page.”

—Stephen Coonts, Bestselling author of “Under Siege”

“A gripping military scenario novel. As timely as today’s headlines.”

—W.E.B Griffin, Bestselling author of “Battleground”

Quelques mots sur l'auteur

Larry Bond lives with his wife Jeanne in Virginia, outside Washington DC. After co-authoring Red Storm Rising with Tom Clancy, he has teamed with several different authors to write eighteen novels: Five with Pat Larkin, starting with Red Phoenix, eight with Jim deFelice, The First Team and Red Dragon Rising series, and six with Chris Carlson, including the Jerry Mitchell series and Red Phoenix Burning. Five have been New York Times bestsellers.

He has also co-designed the Admiralty Trilogy series games, which include Harpoon, Command at Sea, Fear God & Dread Nought, and Dawn of the Battleship. The first three have won industry awards.

Larry’s only nonfiction work is The Mighty Fallen, in collaboration with the photographer f-stop Fitzgerald. A photographic visit to military memorials in the United States and Canada, Larry’s introduction and text accompany f-stop’s stunning photographs of monuments honoring the service and sacrifices made by America’s veterans.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Larry was a Surface Warfare officer before leaving the Navy in 1982. He then worked as a naval analyst for defense consulting firms in the Washington, DC area. He now writes and designs games full-time.

Larry is an avid wargamer and modeler.

When I was nine years old, I caught the writing bug. My fourth-grade teacher read one of my stories to the whole class—something I found both embarrassing and exhilarating, all in the same moment. I doubt that story would qualify as great literature, but it was pretty darned exciting for a bunch of kids caught inside on a rainy day, full of archers and knights, ambushes, and thundering cavalry charges. I've been interested in history, especially military history, for as long as I can remember. (As a three-year-old, one of my favorite books was a collection of illustrated stories about some of the great battles of history. My parents grew a bit worried when they found me arranging my blocks as an Athenian phalanx and formations of Persian archers and cavalry to fight the Battle of Marathon, but it was too late...the damage was done.)

After graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in English, I went to work in Washington, D.C.—doing my bit as a researcher for a committee of the House of Representatives. Other jobs as a political and corporate speechwriter followed. Along the way, I wrote adventures for a Star Trek role-playing game and created the background history for Battletech—which has now spawned a whole series of popular board games, computer games, and novels.

In 1985, I met Larry Bond while he and Tom Clancy were finishing their book RED STORM RISING. Larry and I teamed up in 1987, and our first book, RED PHOENIX, hit the New York Times best seller list as soon as it was published in 1989. With bolstered confidence (or an inflated ego, depending on whom you ask!), I abandoned speechwriting to work as a full-time novelist. Over the next nine years, Larry and I wrote four more novels together—VORTEX, CAULDRON, THE ENEMY WITHIN, and DAY OF WRATH.

While writing these books, I was also lucky enough to meet and marry a wonderful woman. We live in Central Texas with our two children.

In the years since, I've written THE TRIBUNE, the first in a series of Roman-era thrillers featuring Lucius Aurelius Valens. THE TRIBUNE blends action, adventure, history, romance, and a hint of the supernatural. It's now available as an eBook through Amazon. The next story in the series, THE STANDARD-BEARER, should be available soon.

In the years since THE TRIBUNE first appeared, I've also written two fast-paced contemporary thrillers in Robert Ludlum's Covert-One series, THE LAZARUS VENDETTA and THE MOSCOW VECTOR. If you enjoy international intrigue, cutting edge science, and spine-tingling action, these books are for you.
