About this ebook

This book highlights current efforts and research on waste management, processing and valorization, particularly in Asia-Africa countries. Chapters 1–2 highlight the overview of plastic waste management and the production of waste plastic oil (WPO). Chapters 3–5 discuss the landfill characterization and application of incineration and composting for waste processing. A new achievement in adsorbent production is highlighted in Chapters 6 and 7 while Chapters 10 and 11 focus on sewage characteristic and its utilization using microalgae. Enzyme production using waste is covered by Chapters 10-12. Chapter 13-14 dedicated to the advances in production of bioenergy. The book concludes with a discussion on life cycle analysis for solid waste management (Chapter 15).

About the author

Abu Zahrim Yaser is Associate Professor in Waste Processing Technology at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. He obtained his Ph.D. from Swansea University. His inventions on composting system have been adopted by Tongod and Nabawan district in Sabah. He is a visiting scientist at the University of Hull and a member of Institutions of Chemical Engineers (United Kingdom), Board of Engineers (Malaysia) and MyBIOGAS.

Husnul Azan is Program Chairman and Associate Professor at the Division of Bioprocess, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He received his Ph.D. in Bioprocess, from Swansea University. His research is related to sustainable waste treatment and conversion of waste to wealth via biological process.

Asha Embrandiri is currently Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Health, College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), Wollo University, Ethiopia. She obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental Technology from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her research interests are in the areas of environmental biotechnology, bioinformatics and waste management
