It was the perfect escape

Until one by one they vanished...

For friends Riley, Sam, Mia and Scarlett, their trip to Whisper Island, Alaska, was meant to be a once in a lifetime adventure – just four young women, with everything to live for...

But as soon as they arrive things start to go wrong. First there is the unexpected arrival of Sammy’s drug addict brother and his girlfriend Opal – why are they here?

And then the deaths begin.

As the dream trip quickly turns into a nightmare, suspicion is high. Are they really alone on the island? Or is there a killer hiding in the shadows?

An interesting story along the lines of a "Whodunnit" mystery. The author did a great job leaving you guessing until the big reveal. While I enjoyed the story and found it to be a good, quick read, I found the writing to be a bit lacking. Switching between characters POV for each chapter is fine and can be effective, unfortunately the author struggled to have a clearly defined voice for each character. Though each character had obvious word choice differences, the overall voice remained the same throughout making it difficult to distinguish between characters. I often found myself flipping back to the chapter start to see whose head I was supposed to be in because they all read the same. There may have just been too many character POVs for this story. Overall, I did like the story itself and really enjoyed the not-so-happy ending that left room for a possible sequel but still provided the closure necessary for a stand alone story. It would be interesting to see how that unfolds.

Four friends finishing their schooling take a break to work on their art on a remote Alaskan island. At the last moment, one of the friend’s brother and his girlfriend join them. They are able to stay on the island rent free due to a friend of a friend. Things go awry when they realize the rowboat they must use to go to the mainland for supplies is damaged. And then the killings begin. I like the homage the book pays to Agatha Christie. Ten Little Indians is one of my all time favorite books. The author sets a great atmosphere on the island and everyone has a secret. The age of the characters could have had the book seem more young adult than adult, but it really doesn’t. It was a great distraction from life. I really enjoyed it.
