Nora Zeller
In my opinion, this was the horror book of all horror books. The author describes these creatures so perfectly that they are completely believable, and after years I can still picture them in my head. I still flinch and think "Wolfen" any time I am outside after dark and I hear the slightest noise

First read this in the late '70s and have never forgotten it. Genuinely frightening but with the uncanny ability to make the Wolfen sympathetic characters. A masterpiece.

Whitley Streiber's 1978 debut novel about werewolves in New York is set from cops perspectives and the werewolves. Forget the 1981 movie and read the book.
