Jahrhunderts einen Nationalpark gründeten, hatten sie eine Vision: Abgeschottet von menschlichem Einfluss sollte die Natur ihre eigene Urnatur wiederherstellen. Diese Absicht unterschied sich radikal von der US-amerikanischen Nationalparkidee. Nicht der Erholung, sondern primär der Forschung hatte ein Nationalpark zu dienen. Das Konzept war innovativ und beeinflusste die Gestaltung von Schutzgebieten weit über die Schweiz hinaus. "Wildnis schaffen" ist die erste umfassende Darstellung der Geschichte des Schweizerischen Nationalparks, von den Gründerjahren vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg bis ins 21. Jahrhundert.
