CHOSEN FOR THE DUCHESS OF CORNWALL'S READING ROOM BOOK CLUB

'A wartime thriller featuring a resourceful woman in grave danger... a great read' – HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

It is 1939. Eva Delectorskaya is a beautiful 28-year-old Russian émigrée living in Paris. As war breaks out she is recruited for the British Secret Service by Lucas Romer, a mysterious Englishman, and under his tutelage she learns to become the perfect spy, to mask her emotions and trust no one, including those she loves most. Since the war, Eva has carefully rebuilt her life as a typically English wife and mother. But once a spy, always a spy. Now she must complete one final assignment, and this time Eva can't do it alone: she needs her daughter's help.

This is an easy read, its well paced and nicely written. I enjoyed this mystery and found myself looking forward to the next installment of each story ans waiting to see how they would intertwine.

This is a real page-turner with parallel stories set in 1970s Britain and in 1940s USA prior to their entry into WWII. The main focus is a British intelligence unit trying to influence the then-neutral Americans to join the Allies. Whilst the book uses some well-worn espionage tropes, the setting is original, the characters engaging and the story perfectly paced.
