About this eBook

The Agatha Award–winning author of Shredding the Evidence returns to the Cookbook Nook, where it will take a stroke of genius for Jenna Hart to solve the murder of a local artist . . .

Crystal Cove is buzzing with the launch of its fifth annual Art and Wine Festival, when local wineries are paired with local artists to show off their latest creations. Jenna’s thrilled to be showing one of her own amateur paintings at the fair, but her excitement quickly fades when an up-and-coming artist is murdered. What’s more, all the evidence points to a good friend of Jenna’s as the culprit, and she’ll have to use all her wits to prove his innocence before he paints himself into a corner.

Certain that her friend is being framed, Jenna tries to blend in as she starts digging into an array of colorful suspects, including a tech guru with a penchant for stalking women, the mayor’s wayward son, and an older art instructor who might have been closer to the victim than anyone would have guessed. Jenna will have to wine and dine her way through all the clues before she can see the full picture and put the real killer behind bars—all the while avoiding her own brush with death . . .

Includes tantalizing recipes!

Praise for Daryl Wood Gerber and the Cookbook Nook Mysteries:

“There’s a feisty new amateur sleuth in town and her name is Jenna Hart. With a bodacious cast of characters, a wrenching murder, and a collection of cookbooks to die for, Daryl Wood Gerber’s Final Sentence is a page-turning puzzler of a mystery that I could not put down.” —Jenn McKinlay, New York Times bestselling author of the Cupcake Mysteries and Library Lovers Mysteries

“In Final Sentence, the author smartly blends crime, recipes, and an array of cookbooks that all should covet in a witty, well-plotted whodunit.” —Kate Carlisle, New York Times bestselling author of the Bibliophile Mysteries

“Readers will relish the extensive cookbook suggestions, the cooking primer, and the whole foodie phenomenon. Gerber’s perky tone with a multigenerational cast makes this series a good match for Lorna Barrett’s Booktown Mystery series . . .” —Library Journal

“So pull out your cowboy boots and settle in for a delightful read. Grilling the Subject is a delicious new mystery that will leave you hungry for more.” —Carstairs Considers Blog

Wining and Dying by Daryl Wood Gerber is the 10th A Cookbook Nook Mystery. It is always a pleasure to visit Crystal Cove where Katie is sure to be whipping up a delectable treat for Jenna and her friends. Jenna Hart and Rhett Jackson are working with their wedding planner on their upcoming nuptials. The final touches are also being done on their new home. The characters are the backbone of this charming series. They are warm and friendly. I like how they have evolved since the beginning of the series. The author lets this engaging cast of characters continue to grow, but she has not rushed it (like the romance between Rhett and Jenna). I just love Jenna’s cat, Tigger (I have a weakness for ginger cats). There are plenty of cozy moments for readers to enjoy interspersed with the mystery. When a fellow artist is killed and a friend is framed, Jenna works to uncover the truth. There are several suspects along with good clues and a red herring. I liked piecing together the clues and solving this whodunit. I also enjoyed the suspenseful reveal. One of these days, Chief Cinnamon Pritchett will arrest Jenna out of pique. There were some great cookbook references including a couple for cookies (those are the ones I jotted down). I look forward to Jenna and Rhett’s wedding (hopefully in the next book). There are recipes at the end of the book including one for Katie’s wine cookies. Wining and Dying can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series, though, I think it is best read in order. Wining and Dying is a delightful tale with wonderful wines, pretty paintings, tasty treats, a departed painter, wedding woes, a curious cat, and a framed friend.

In this latest edition of the Crystal Cove Cookbook Nook Mysteries, you find the sleuthing happening during the backdrop of a wine and art festival. As someone who loves wine themed cozy mysteries, I was drawn to the title, and the description. Jenna, the main character and bookstore owner, as well as amatuer sleuth, is a finalist in the annual art contest, and is drawn into the investigation when a friend is accused of murdering one of the other contestants. Along with other friends, you are pulled along with her as she discovers clue after clue to not only clear her friend, but to discover who actually killed the fellow artist. I have to admit to not having read all the books in this series, but the author does such a wonderful job bringing you into the story that if you have not read any of the others, you will not be lost. It could stand alone. However, from having read others in this series, I know how great the writing is and do recommend checking the others out. I myself intend to do so. One of the things I love about this series is the characters, and the setting. Taking place in the fictional town of Crystal Cove, I can almost picture where it is, and all the people there. I feel like I can walk down the street and greet each of the townsfolk by name. I also enjoy the addition of book titles, and food descriptions, even if my stomach growls while reading them. Luckily, many of the recipes are included in the back for those who wish to try them. In this one, I am thinking of making the wine cookies. They sound wonderful! I recommend this book to those who love this series as they will find this to be a wonderful edition, and fabulous story. To those who have not read the series, and want a nice romp with some well written characters, and good mystery that gives you twists and turns to find out whodunit, I also highly recommend it.
