The book examines the story of judo for women and how the history of the sport has paralleled the cultural and social challenges faced by women in both the East and the West. Mike Callan is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, Sport and Geography and Head of the i-dojo International Judo Research Unit at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. He is the President of the International Association of Judo Researchers, Education Director of the Commonwealth Judo Association and Managing Director of the Judospace Educational Institute. He has worked in the International Federation Services team for judo at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He is a 7th Dan and was awarded the International Judo Federation Special Award for his services to education and research.
