One Icelandic Christmas holiday. One snowstorm. An adventure they'll never forget!

Twenty-five years ago, Freya and her three best friends created a bucket list. The future seemed bright and full of hope . . . But now they are travelling to Iceland in memory of the friend they've lost, determined to fulfil her dream of seeing the Northern Lights at Christmas.

They didn't count on an avalanche leaving them stranded! Handsome local, Pétur, comes to the rescue, showing them how the community survives the hard winter. With Christmas approaching, Freya and her friends throw themselves into the festivities, decorating and cooking for the villagers using delicious local ingredients.

But will they manage to see the Northern Lights? And can Freya's own dreams come true, this Christmas?

I enjoyed reading this but about two-thirds of the way through I found it hard going. The endings were signalled and it felt like we were limping towards the conclusion. And of course the problem with a book dragging is that you start to see faults, like the Icelandic artist Pétur who seems happy to see his village atrophy rather than embrace change. Also the slow pace meant I felt I was being preached at about the villagers' way of life. Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

This book was just so laid back and totally transported you to a village in the middle of nowhere, lots of snow and different customs. By the end of the book all the characters had reevaluated their lives, changing them for the better, some quite surprising! A really wonderful book.

Just a fantastic read. While there is some romance this book was mostly about communities and taking care for each other through a harsh winter.
