About this ebook

When I learned my husband married me to keep his trust fund, I served him divorce papers. Doing the deed on top of those papers probably wasn’t a good idea.

From Marie Johnston comes a second chance romance.

I was content being the girl from the trailer park who grew up to be a quiet librarian. My idea of excitement was when King Oil hosted an open house and invited my workplace. Aiden King would be there, and he’d probably look better than he did when we were kids. A girl could dream—his looks and money made sure of it.

I didn’t expect him to remember me, much less ask me out. And keep dating me. He proposed and we married. I tried to be happy but he was distant and always gone for work. Then I learned the millions of reasons why he married me. In order to keep his trust fund, he needed a wife. I was nothing but an easy target.

So I served him divorce papers. Only he won’t sign them, and I can’t figure out why. He cares more about his family’s company than me. I can’t believe I’m the woman he’d have chosen if he wasn’t rushed. But one night, he breaks and reveals why he’s not signing those papers, and his explanation is fast…and hot…and explosive. And right on top of those papers.

I want to believe a simple girl like me could land a wealthy, handsome guy like him, but he fooled me once already. And I can’t go back to a cold husband who won’t make me a priority.

This is the best of the King’s Oil series in my opinion. The story is told from both Aiden’s and Kate’s point of view, so the pain is intense. Aiden is the president of the company, and both his father and grandmother make him do everything. He leaves Kate asleep in the morning, and she is often asleep when he finishes work late in the night. This has been going on for the entire four years of their marriage. We know that he does adore her, but it seems he has never put her first in his life. Kate has crushed on him since she was a teen, and meeting, dating and marriage within a few months was her dream come true. Until she learns about the family trust fund, 100million dollars if Aiden marries before he is 30. Seems that the whole family was well aware of this, but Aiden had never bothered to explain to Kate. So devastated, Kate files for divorce not wanting anything more than what she brought into the marriage at the beginning. Aiden, still not able to put into words his feelings, tell his father and grams to back off asks Kate for time. The story is how they find themselves, their love and go on to find a way to make things work for them both. I loved this story. This is book five in The Oil King's Series and it is Aiden and Kate's story. This is the first time that I have read a book by Marie Johnston but after reading the synopsis I decided to give it a try as it is always a bit of trial and error reading books by new authors to you but I am definitely glad that I took the chance as I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and all it's twists and turns along the way and I can't wait to read more by from her in the future as it was so well written and definitely worth reading. The characters and storyline were really good and you had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next between Aiden and Kate and I was definitely not disappointed with the outcome. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will definitely not be disappointed. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

When Aiden first set his sights on Kate she couldn't believe it, she adored him and couldn't understand what he saw in her. When they married she thought her dreams had come true. But after years of being ignored and living like a roommate and not a wife Kate's had enough and even though it will break her heart she serves Aiden with divorce papers and asks for nothing more than what was agreed in their prenup. Aiden can't believe his wife wants out, he's not prepared to give up on their marriage, he’s not going to let his wife go, he's going to do something about it, once he sobers up anyway. Will he be able to win Kate back and if he can will he be able to keep her? They do begin to communicate and things seem to improve, but will it be enough? When she learns the truth about why he married her what will she do? This is a story that takes the reader on a real emotional rollercoaster ride and I have to say by the end of the book my feelings about Aiden had totally changed. a few seconds ago
