In den Anfangsjahren des 20. Jahrhunderts verschreibt sich eine neoromantisch inspirierte literarische Strömung der zeitgemäßen Suche nach einer modernen, in der Kunst ›aufgehobenen‹ Religiosität: der Magische Realismus. Maßgeblich bei der Formierung dieser Strömung sind neben dem französischen rénouveau catholique Vertreterinnen und Vertreter der Jüdischen Renaissance. Während sich Einzelstudien bisher zumeist entweder auf religionsphilosophische Fragestellungen aus dem Bereich der Jüdischen Studien oder auf Fragestellungen der germanistischen Literaturwissenschaft fokussierten, eröffnet der vorliegende Band transdiziplinäre Zugänge. Die fruchtbaren Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Jüdischer Renaissance und der deutschsprachigen Literatur des Magischen Realismus – eingeschlossen aus dem Hebräischen ins Deutsche übertragene Texte – werden hier erstmals systematisch reflektiert und in exemplarischen Einzelstudien ausdifferenziert. In the early years of the 20th century, one of the Neoromanticism-inspired literary trends begins a time-determined search for modern religiosity, localized in the art of Magical Realism. Along with the French rénouveau catholique representatives of the Jewish Renaissance were also actively involved in the formation of this trend. While some studies have so far focused on religious and philosophical issues in the field of Jewish studies or on the issues of German literary studies, this volume opens new transdisciplinary approaches. The productive relationship between the Jewish Renaissance and the German literature of Magical Realism – including Hebrew texts translated into German – is for the first time systematically reflected on and differentiated here in individual exemplary studies.
