Weltkrieg initiierte Romain Rolland 1919 mit Henri Barbusse die Gruppe Clarté, eine Friedensbewegung linker Intellektueller, und die gleichnamige Zeitschrift. 1923 war er Mitgründer der Zeitschrift Europe, die sich insbesondere für eine Verständigung zwischen Frankreich und Deutschland einsetzte. Der Roman Clérambault, histoire d’une conscience libre pendant la guerre von 1920 ist Ausdruck seines transnationalen Pazifismus.
About the author
Romain Rolland wurde am 29. Januar 1866 in Clamecy, Département Nièvre geboren und starb am 30. Dezember 1944 in Vézelay, Burgund. Er war ein französischer Schriftsteller, Musikkritiker und Pazifist. 1915 wurde er mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet.
