About this ebook

"A wholesome, slow-burn romance that will warm your heart...This is a Hallmark movie in book form." - USA Today bestselling author Helen Hoang

What happens when your love life becomes the talk of the town?

As birthdays go, this year’s for radio producer Everly Dean hit rock-bottom.

Worse than the “tonsillectomy birthday.” Worse than the birthday her parents decided to split (the first time). But catching your boyfriend cheating on you with his assistant?

Even clichés sting.

But this is Everly’s year! She won’t let her anxiety hold her back. She’ll pitch her podcast idea to her boss.

There’s just one problem.

Her boss, Chris, is very cute. (Of course). Also, he's extremely distant (which means he hates her, right? Or is that the anxiety talking)?

And, Stacey the DJ didn’t mute the mic during Everly’s rant about Simon the Snake (syn: Cheating Ex).

That’s three problems.

Suddenly, people are lining up to date her, Bachelorette-style, fans are voting (Reminder: never leave house again), and her interest in Chris might be a two-way street. It’s a lot for a woman who could gold medal in people-avoidance. She’s going to have to fake it ‘till she makes it to get through all of this.

Perhaps she’ll make a list: The Ten Rules for Faking It.

Because sometimes making the rules can find you happiness when you least expect it.

“Once you start reading, you won’t be able to put it down.” - Lyssa Kay Adams, author of The Bromance Book Club

Ten Rules For Faking It is a magnificent contemporary romance by Sophie Sullivan. Ms. Sullivan has provided readers with the treat of a well-written book, a fabulous storyline and a cast of characters that is spectacular. Kudos on making Everly quirky and lovable, but real. Chris is the station manager where Everly works, counting the days till he can move on to his next project. Everly loves her job at the radio station but blunders when she stops her friend from singing Happy Birthday and blurts that she found her boyfriend in bed with another woman...on air. Chris and Everly's story is loaded with problems from Everly's quirks and drama, humor and spice will keep you glued to this book. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Sophie Sullivan in the future. Ten Rules For Faking it is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I thought this book sounded good so I decided to take a chance and I'm mostly glad I did. That being said, I will admit it wasn't a perfect read. Unfortunately, there were a few things that really bugged me and a couple of pet peeves along the way, to boot. Still I can honestly say that I enjoyed this read. I really liked Everly and I felt a deep personal connection to her, that I think other readers will as well. She is a character with issues and that is something I highly appreciate when readers are still exposed to an almost endless stream of perfection that is unrealistic and unattainable for most of us. The storyline itself is cute, funny and a tad over-the-top but I felt that was mostly in the best way. Chris was quite likable and I thought sweet. As for the romance side of this book; it is classified as a slow-burn and frankly I would have very much preferred that to be kicked-up by many levels. While I liked this pairing, I felt there were no real sparks between them, just embers that in my opinion never received enough time or care to grow into the flames I wanted for this couple and believed Everly deserved. Of my own accord I am posting an unbiased review.

Real, honest look at navigating life and dating with all the stress and anxiety. Everly loves being a radio producer, working in the background and staying out of the limelight. She struggles with anxiety so most social situations are a true struggle. Sadly, birthdays are the worst for her which hits an all-time high when her partner, Stacy the DJ, has her live on camera and she blurts out her latest dating drama. Suddenly, her job is in jeopardy and the whole city knows her life story. Chris is working hard to prove to his obstinate father that he can run the business without his intervention. When the story for Everly goes viral, Chris devises a plan to save her job and the radio station with a dating game for Everly through the station. I enjoyed this journey for Everly. I felt her ups and downs while being right there with her as she challenged herself to be brave and face her fears and anxieties. Chris ends up being a great balance for her but he has his own challenge of dealing with his father. Stacy is an awesome best friend as she always has Everly’s back while giving the nudge when needed to help Everly stay strong and stick to her rules.
