Alek, immortal son of the Furies, was tasked to recapture the creatures that escaped Tartarus and ventured into the Mortal Realm. He is helped by Eva Kostas, the new Oracle. This new adult fantasy takes place in Tartarus and Tulsa. Let me preface this review with, when I started reading the book, I did not realize it was the second book in the series. I could follow the story with no problem, but it is possible I would have enjoyed it more if I read the Book one, Amber Smoke, first. I liked the characters. Eva recently learned that she is the new Oracle and is still discovering her powers. She deals with a lot in a short amount of time. Alex is brave and determined. The two have good chemistry. I like that detective James Graham follows his instincts and helps Eva and Alex. Bridget is an excellent friend. The characters are believable and well developed. There were a few times that the story did not hold my interests, and I found myself skimming. I love Greek mythology, so I am always interested contemporary stories base on the myths. Kristin Cast does a good job of incorporating the old with the new. Complimentary copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
