I found this one a bit odd. It was entertaining enough but nothing I could really relate to and I never felt that connection to the characters I enjoy when reading. The setting is an obscure little fictional country. There are mobsters, terrorists, secret agents, and oh yeah, a fake engagement. It was all just a bit too much and seemed rushed in a lot of places.

Her Enemy Protector by Avery Flynn....Avery Flynn knows how to write an exciting, page turning book that you can't put it down. Oh my goodness, I was on the edge of my seat all the way through. I was so into the story unfolding for Lucas and Ruby. If you are looking for an exciting story do not let this one pass you by. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley.

Major Lucas Bendtsen, now the Earl of Moad, has come a long way from the streets of the small Kingdom of Elskov to spymaster. His latest mission is “Operation Family Jewels” (groan, snort!), and he has to lure Ruby Macintosh, mobster Rolf Macintosh’s stepdaughter. Rolf appears to be in collusion with Gregers Henriksen, whose aim is to destroy Elskov. Lucas needs to get close to Rolf and will do whatever it takes to protect his country. Lucas’ cover will be to ask Ruby, a jewellery designer, to design a family crest to go with his newly acquired title. Lucas is about to discover that he is not as cold-hearted as he thought… I love this series! As I had mentioned for book one, what makes it really work for me is how meticulously Avery Flynn has built the fictitious country of Elskov. HER ENEMY PROTECTOR has a solid story, with no plot holes, believable and engaging characters, sexual tension that crackles, and a brisk pace throughout. The fake engagement trope, which I often find difficult to pull off successfully in contemporary romance, works perfectly. At times, you could cut the tension with a knife, and the sex scenes could be hazardous to your ereader! And let’s not forget all the giggles and snorts, typical of Ms. Flynn, and how about that pink room! While there is no cliffhanger, the Kingdom of Elskov is still not safe, and I have an inkling as who will defend the small Nordic country next. HER ENEMY PROTECTOR is Avery Flynn at the top of her form! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
