Hotel for the Lost

Haunted hotels sounds like the perfect October read, so naturally when this book became available on Riveted Lit, I jumped at the chance. The basic part of the story is that a grieving dysfunctional family on the road makes a pit stop at the Hotel Ruby for a night, but then decide to stay until the end of the week, during which Audrey, our main character, starts noticing odd things happening at the hotel. The crux of All the Creepy is the concierge, who, while seemingly polite enough to others, is sort of rude to her, and keeps hovering and watching from the shadows. The plot twist, while predictable in a way, is awesome enough to blow your mind. Audrey's family - her brother and her father, haven't spoken much to each other since the mother's death. And now that her father is dumping the siblings off at their grandma's because of her acting out, they are on thin ice with each other. But at the hotel, they seem to, on the surface at least, get along, which forms a big reason for their extending their stay. Audrey, though, is much more interested in hanging out with Elias, while her brother is interested in Elias' ex. Weird horror stuff happens, but everyone is cryptic about it, including the staff. And if you already knew the plot twist (I was already spoiled before reading the book soooooo) you can see where the author cleverly places the clues. That reveal was interesting; it made sense and also drew upon the number 13. Basically, an interesting spooky book which makes it a good Halloween read.
