Poor story overall. I've purchased the books 1-3 out of curiosity, and I was severely dissapointed. I had to suffer through the books and all I have to say is: don't bother. In short: a nearly immortal small spider/monkey hybrid creature thought it was a good idea to stop the world from turning, by sabbotaging a clock built inside a mountain, to force humanity to stay peaceful. Many, many, many years later, a cult with no doctrine takes root that blames "night demons" (people that evolved on the world's night side) for everything bad that happens each day. War breaks out between night side and day side, people die, night people are brought on the brink of extinction only for the slaughter to stop after a "heartfelt" speech from the main character that made the world turn again. If you are a fan of senseless violence, poorly written army clashes, bland and uninteresting characters, poorly thought out plot, even poorer world setting; then this series is for you.

I've never given a negative review of a book before and I don't feel good about starting now but I didn't enjoy these books. It's partly that I think I'm too old for them (YA fantasy) and partly that the writing is... uninspired. Tropes upon tropes and cliche after cliche. The author seems to be writing for children but it has enough gore in it that it would be better suited for young adults. However, the quality of the writing just isn't there. A very simple read ...and yet I don't think I could bring myself to recommend it to anyone. If you're looking for great fantasy for any age, try Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

This book is full of cliche, senseless choices by characters, sudden saving graces for no reason, terribly out of place and sudden grand statements, bad grammar, and generally lacks any sort of character building. I am almost sorry I paid money for this book set. Please don't make my mistake, there are so many good fantasy series out there, this is not one.
