Heart of Fire: Blood of Zeus: Book Two

I loved this book. However, I wish we got to see more character development throughout the story. Maximus is just lovely, he is different and mystery really fits his character. However, I wanted to see his abilities be explored more. It was disappointing that even after reading two books, we do not have much of a clue about what he can do. And Kara was literally the best female character in a paranormal romance that I have ever read about. She has ambitions, she's an intelligent classics major, and even though I am not a half demon myself, I felt like I could relate with her struggle. Overall, I loved the book and I am dying to read the next one.

4.25 stars--HEART OF FIRE is the second instalment in the contemporary, adult BLOOD OF ZEUS paranormal, mythological, romantic suspense series co-authored by Meredith Wild and Angel Payne focusing on university student Kara Valari and professor Maximus Kane. HEART OF FIRE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the event of book one BLOOD OF ZEUS. Told from dual first person perspectives (Kara and Maximus) HEART OF FIRE follows in the aftermath of Maximus Kane’s discovery of his heritage, and the history of his mother’s relationship with a God among man. As the fall-out of Maximus’ relationship with his student Kara Valari comes under the scrutiny of the paparazzi, the students and the teaching staff, there is someone else determined to make Kara his own, no matter the cost or repercussions to everyone involved. What ensues is the ongoing relationship between Maximus and Kara, and the chaotic fall-out of betrayal, vengeance, obsession and lies. Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Maximus’ best friend and fellow professor Jesse NOrth; Kara’s sister Kell, their mother Veronica Valari, their grandfather Giovani Valari, art collector Arden, Maximus’ mother Nancy Kane, his father, and the uncles he knew nothing about. We are introduced to Kara’s brother Jaden, and his best friend Rerek who is about to betray the man that he loves. Like the first instalment BLOOD OF ZEUS, HEART OF FIRE is a story of family, secrets, power and gods; of mythological demons, angels, contracts and legends; of promises and love. The premise is captivating and heart breaking; the romance is passionate and emotional; the characters are energetic and determined. HEART OF FIRE ends on a cliff-hanger, you have been warned.

Holy Hades hang in there! Kara and Maximus are fighting against a stacked deck! The 'rents, gramps, the extended family, the jealous goddess, and a whole host of other barriers I am in awe of the depth of their love and belief that they are stronger together - Yes their love reads like one of those epic romances We pick up right where book one dropped us - As the story progresses a lot more "truths" are revealed and we find Kara and Max leaning more on each other to safely wade through the murky waters Full of action and intrigue Betrayal and Sacrifice Not to mention all the of the little breadcrumb trails that lead everywhere and nowhere This ended on a cliffy that had me white-knuckling and saying all kinds of swear words and now I have to wait... Impatiently... Hoping their love is strong enough that they can come out on top
