5 STARS OUT OF 5 READERS’ FAVORITE REVIEW:

A delightful story about the strength of friendship between two dinosaurs. Trygg is newly hatched… As he ventures out on his own, he faces bullies and struggles to teach himself how to hunt. Then he meets Alta who, like him, is a misfit. Alta is the outsider of her herd, without any parents and hampered by a foot injury.… The two form an unlikely friendship (…) and struggle to survive in a harsh environment.
A sweet read for children of all ages.... Great characters (…) overcome their fears and discover bravery they didn't know they were capable of. Salvador breathes such life into this world (…) by making Alta and Trygg (…) characters children will love…. Stunning illustrations…. Salvador’s tale of friendship is a true testimony to standing up for others and finding your own bravery…. A story full of heart, with an inside look at the dangerous world of dinosaurs.” Reviewed By Liz Konkel for Readers’ Favorite, 2019

4.8 OUT OF 5 INDIE READER REVIEW:

"Author Paula Louise Salvador and illustrator John Bindon earn top marks for creating an imaginative dinosaur story that will tug the hearts of children, parents, and teachers ... Together, they've created a lovable story ... Opposites attract in a bittersweet middle grades novel about orphaned dinosaurs -- one a tiny carnivore, the other a huge herbivore. Salvador deftly alternates Trygg's and Alta's early childhood tales of loss. This rhythm changes and the heavy emotions lighten when the two meet and become loyal, got-your-back swamp playmates. Salvador gives her characters human conversation, emotions, and personalities. Bindon's black-and-white illustrations capture these personality traits as well as realistic dinosaur anatomy." - Alicia Rudnecki for IndieReader, 2019

QUILL & QUIRE REVIEW:

"With the lovability of 'The Land Before Time' and the accuracy of an encyclopedia, Trygg The Dinosaur is an immersive tale set… 76 million years ago… in the Western region. Trygg is an immediately lovable underdog and his companion Alta is a loyal friend.” Nicole Abi-Najem 2019

I enjoyed this little tale of Trygg, a Troodon. He made friends with Alta, an Hypacrosaurus, though they should have been enemies. Their friendship was pushed to its limits with all the dangers from nature and other dinosaurs. In the end, though, that friendship helped them succeed. This was definitely an interesting quick story, and I recommend it to children interested in dinosaurs as well as adults. I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

About the author

Paula Louise Salvador has had great adventures as a writer, narrator and documentary film maker. The scariest was when she stood under the ribs of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton. The most fun was filming dinosaur dig-sites from a helicopter. On the dangerous side, she had to dodge alligators in Mississippi. But it was a tiny dinosaur that captured Paula’s heart when she held the fossilized egg of a little Troödon. He was curled up inside, just about to hatch. That’s where Paula’s story of Trygg begins.

John Bindon is one of Canada's great dinosaur illustrators. His detailed original drawings of the dinosaurs and prehistoric animals in the dramatic scenes of the story have been described as "stunning". John created them from actual skeletal drawings and museum mounts, but he also added a smile, or a frown, or a twinkle in the eye. Kids love the pictures.
