About this ebook

A lady without a purpose

After the death of her soulbonded twenty years ago, Lynia has struggled to find her place. Her son, Lyr, has the estate well in hand, and there are no pressing duties for her to attend. Aside from keeping peace between their many visitors and ignoring her growing attraction to the cranky healer, her days blur into uncomfortable monotony. Not even her work doing research brings much excitement. Then an unexpected prophesy shoves her into sudden action—and the healer’s company—as a plague threatens all she holds dear.

A healer without hope

For nearly five centuries, Lial has treated injured warriors and residents around Braelyn, but not even the small friendships he has formed can fill the increasing loneliness of his life. Worse, he made the mistake of falling in love with Lynia, who still mourns the soulbonded she lost. He buries himself in work to avoid her, but it seems the gods have other plans. According to his seer cousin, a new disease is coming, one capable of killing elves and fae alike. Lial’s only hope? Working with Lynia to find a cure.

An ancient threat

While fighting to ignore their attraction, Lial and Lynia must search for answers. Deep in Moranaia’s history, there are murmurs of such a plague, but finding the details is no easy matter—especially when a mysterious assassin strikes near the heart of Braelyn. As Lyr hunts for the traitor, Lial and Lynia scramble to unlock the mystery of the virus. But the two events may be more related than they realize, and failure can bring only one thing—death.

Just finished. The only thing I missed was the firery interactions between Lynia and Lial. That was the fun in the other books which made hoping they got together. Considering the pandemic and the fact I was an RN before hurting my back, you did extremely well explaining and having two people that hadn't studied earth medicine come to a understanding. Maybe better than most of my professors explained. Maybe because of the pandemic you toned down the feeling of stress and urgency of what was happening. I didn't feel the ramp up of impending doom as I did in Fen, Maddy & Anna's; Aris, Eri & Irene's or in Raalan's. Thank you though I missed that energy after this past year I'm grateful. Never for one second, even with Eri being blocked by the Goddess or Raalan's warning everything could go south, did I ever doubt Lial would solve this. The twists you used were worth every second of reading.

Once again, Bethany Adams creates such relatable characters, both flawed and awesome, and such a gripping story, it's impossible to put this book down. I know I was completely entranced. How do you best test a healer and a researcher? You give them a plague to deal with! This has clearly been thoroughly researched, because watching Lial and Lynia work together to stop the spread of a disease none of them ever encountered before is so fascinating, that I was halfway through, and the tensions were running so high, I thought I'd never breathe again. The love story is beautifully written, with old feelings and new feelings mixing with two personalities that keep unravelling new facets. I mean, both Lial and Lynia have been part of the series from early on, but if you thought you already knew everything you needed to know about them, this book will make you reconsider. As usual, never as much as a single boring paragraph, the writing is interesting and funny at just the right times, the story flows seamlessly, and if you're new to this universe, yes, you can read this book by itself, but do yourself a favor and read all (currently) 8 of them. You won't regret it. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I've waited so long for this story and it didn't disappoint. I love escaping into this world Bethany has created, it's like coming home to old friends. The story had everything, tension, a heartwarming romance and a few laughs. I finished it far too soon and can't wait for the next story and to watch these families grow.
