"If I’m Dead", a 'Rachel Knight Series' story by Marcia Clark is a short stand alone story that keeps the reader wondering right through to the end how it is going to turn out. When a Ford Explorer is found stranded on a desolate beach the owner is nowhere to be found. Clues lead the officers to look towards a homicide. The identity of the missing owner is soon found out and Rachel Knight, Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney, is almost sure she has been murdered and the suspect is of course the husband when a diary is found and the last entry written is “If I’m Dead”. Now can Rachel convince twelve people that the husband is guilty? With his attorney cutting holes in their defense, Rachel is beginning to wonder if she will pull this off.
This isn’t the first Marcia Clark book that I have read, so I figured it would be good. I found that from the beginning I was able to stay quite interested to see what was going to happen next. With a humorous side to the book we also have the court action where we see the serious side of Rachel Knight. It was easy to get involved with the characters. Even though Rachel knows her job and does it I felt as though she was a little unsure of herself. To my knowledge this is the first book in the 'Rachel Knight Series' but naturally I will look forward to more of her series. It was cleanly written and I would consider it a cozy mystery genre. If this is your type of book I feel you will enjoy it.
