About this ebook

An unprepared witch. A mysterious human. And a quest that will test them both …

Hazel always knew she was one of the weakest witches of her generation. For a moment there, she even cared about that status.

Not anymore. She’s determined to live her life as a normal human—with exception for the occasional ghost hunting. What can she do if the damn spirits won’t leave her alone?

But when she finally settles into a new routine, Hazel receives a message that changes everything: the Lightgrove Coven, one of the most powerful witch covens in the world, grants her a rare chance to join them, but only if she passes a dangerous test on Friday the Thirteenth.

At first, Hazel wants to disregard the message. But who is she kidding? This is an opportunity she can’t say no to.

Everything is going unexpectedly fine until a human steps in Hazel's way. Sean is mysterious, hot, and inexplicably alluring. Despite Hazel’s best attempts to ignore him, she can’t. And when Sean’s fate entwines with Hazel’s task, it puts everything at risk—not just her test, but also their own lives.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I have read & I love the entire Rite World series. This one did not disappoint, & I can't wait for book 2. While I'm way too old for Ms Haygert's target audience (63), I still really enjoy her writing. Great stories, & the main characters become real. In this one, Hazel is a young witch who hasn't really fit in anywhere. Teens on the punk rock side will relate to her. Before the book is over, she gains a large amount of her power, is well on the path to falling in love, & making an interesting & enjoyable life for herself. I also really like that in the current YA fantasy genre, Women are not only often powerful, but they are often more powerful than the surrounding Men. Perhaps by the time Gen Z grows up, the e.r.a. will be unnecessary. Fast, easy & fun read (My only complaint is the book is short, I read it twice before leaving this review). And we're left with quite a cliffhanger. Can't wait for the followup, & I plan to continue to read all of Ms Haygert's work except some of her hard core romance series' (not my genre). I just started re-reading Juliana's The Fireheart Chronicles, have read the Everlast Series & also have started the Breaking Series. One of my favorite authors in the genre along with Dima Zales, Deborah Harkness & JA Cipriano.

Hazel Levine is one of those characters who somehow managed to just capture my attention. I adore this character, there was just something about her that has made me grown fond of her. The story is easy to follow but it was one that is full of intrigue. Hazel is set to join the Lightgrove Coven to help with her powers. The ending battle sequence was something that left me feeling like it was a movie. This world is great, I enjoyed reading this story. I am excited to read the sequel and read more about Hazel as she understands and learns her magic. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

ARC for an honest Review.... This story is based on a witch getting better as she ages. There seems to be a kind and simple life in the beginning for Hazel. It gets better as Hazel's witchy spells & potions are used to banish off the bad people. She finds out that there's a test for her to join an elite team - I want to know more about this part if possible.... I'm wishing it was a longer story cus it doesn't seem to be long enough for this first part. I'm looking forward for the next best bits. Thanks Juliana for this arc & your patience for my review.
