Generational story, that really achieved a lot. I was taken aback by the stories of these people. The ending was also extremely well done, I was quite moved. I also feel I have gained some invaluable knowledge about some history of African Americans. Beautiful book, but I have given four stars as I feel some parts could have been edited out and some of the more important characters were slightly underdeveloped.

Absolutely beautiful! It's like a compilation of love stories by a brilliant BRILLIANT writer. How she just takes the reader on a journey through time, through countries and ideals, I felt like I was where each character was. Some of the experiences were heartbreaking, others enthralling. I was worried the ending wont do the book justice but I was pleasantly surprised. Yaa Gyasi has skill guys!

This book is takes you on a different journey through slavery. It covers the known and unknown paths that people were thrust into and also the choices that they had to make which would determine there future. Wonderful read! Now I am ready for the next book 😊

Yaa Gyasi was born in Mampong, Ghana and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Her short stories have appeared in African American Review, Guernica and Callaloo. Homegoing is her first novel.
