Das "Internet der Dinge" wird als besonders zukunftsträchtiges Technologiefeld eingeschätzt. Es zielt auf die Verbreitung von selbstständig kommunikationsfähigen Infrastrukturen durch drahtlose Vernetzung von Objekten, mobilen Geräten und bestehenden Netzwerken wie dem Internet. Das "Internet der Dinge" ist das zweite Themenfeld der neu gestalteten Initiative zur Früherkennung von Qualifikationserfordernissen des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF). Ziel ist, neue Qualifikationsanforderungen früh zu erkennen und sie in den berufsbildungspolitischen Prozess einzubinden. Im Fokus dieses Sammelbands stehen drei Anwendungsfelder, die neue Qualifikationspotenziale erfordern: "Smart House", Logistik und industrielle Produktion.
