About this ebook

‘You couldn’t make it up. Brilliant.’
Jeffrey Archer

‘Decades of war has given James Deegan a natural ability to create a world that is incredibly realistic and exciting. This takes military fiction to a whole new level entirely. Deegan is a master’
Tom Marcus Mi5 Survellance officer, Author of Capture or Kill

‘Move over Andy McNab and Chris Ryan, there’s a new SAS veteran writing thrillers and he’s good. Very good.’
Stephen Leather

John Carr has recently left the SAS, after a long and distinguished career, and is now working for a Russian oligarch in the murky world of private security.

But an incident from his past – in which three terrorists were brutally killed – suddenly comes back to haunt him.

Tracked by a hitman out for revenge, John Carr is forced to step over the line to defend himself and his family. It’s a cruel and violent world – and one he thought he’d left behind.

But some wars never end.

Patriot Games meets Taken: In Once A Pilgrim, John Carr shows all the Reacher-esque hallmarks of a cold-blooded antihero doing what needs to be done, whatever the consequences.

JAMES DEEGAN MC is a fantastic new voice in the thriller genre, writing with unprecedented authority and authenticity.

‘Carr is a hero for our times’

Glad to see an ex para (served alongside this Teuchter) write a good book. If you have military experience then you'll probably shake your head as this unrealistic ex blade cuts through the Irish republicans with ease. If you like your Chris Ryan action packed books and the more grounded gritty and real life like experiences in Andy McNabs books then you'll like this but feel that the authenticity is not there. That's because the extremely right wing author of this book let's his views overtake the story. All the Irish are dim witted sadistic cartoon characters, any villainous actions by the military or government is justified, all women are there just to be bedded and I kid you not: every single female character is a sexist portrayal of a woman who only wants to sleep with the main character and I've seen this author and trust me, they don't. I'd leave this book alone unless you have a few quid to spare.

Goes a little something like this, 2 or so pages of intro, action, action, action, bit more action, excellent ending/teaser for next book. Great read, parts read like they could be from Deegan MC's diary other parts are a cross between Bond/Bourne/Reacher. Not usually a fiction reader but genuinely a gripping exciting book!

About the author

JAMES DEEGAN MC spent five years in the Parachute Regiment, and seventeen years in the SAS. He served for most of that time in a Sabre Squadron, from Trooper to Squadron Sergeant Major, and saw almost continuous service on operations in Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. He fought in both Gulf Wars, and was on both occasions amongst the first Coalition soldiers to cross the border into Iraq. Twice decorated for gallantry he was described by his commanding officer as ‘one of the most operationally-experienced SAS men of his era’.
