About this ebook

Who killed Laura Vernon?

The helicopters are halted. The dogs are called off. The search for beautiful, teenaged Laura Vernon is over. Her body is found, mutilated, in the forest.

When he takes on the case, Ben Cooper is paired with a new partner: Diane Fry, a woman as tenacious as she is alluring. The two detectives are like fire and gasoline. But they must learn to work together to apprehend a killer who is hiding in plain sight.

This relentless, atmospheric thriller is perfect for readers of New York Times bestselling authors Ian Rankin and Peter Robinson, and for viewers of the hit TV series The Killing.

Book was a very slow read for me, and I had a difficult time staying interested and kept wanting to quit reading it. I wasn't used to the phrases and terms used by the writer since I'm American and the story seems like it was taking place deep in the rural countryside where everyone is mostly old and stodgy and stuck in the past. The 'old-fashioned' writing style made it seem like it was taking place decades ago, when I thought it was supposed to be current times (unless rural village life is that far behind cities). I was also deflated to find out who actually committed the murder, and it seemed anti-climactic. I have another book "Blood on the Tongue" by this same author, and I am hoping it does't stall out for me like this one did. The only thing I really enjoyed from the book was imagining the quaint village and scenery depicted all through the story. I'm used to reading faster paced dialog with current terms and technology, and taut storylines. Perhaps the 'Cooper and Fry' duo are just not my 'cup of tea'. We'll see after the next book.
