A very dark and twisted British mystery set in busy London that sucks you into the drama. The plot involves a range of abhorrent criminal activities which could be offensive to some readers. It was a great ‘who done it' criminal case filled with suspense. Melinda has worked hard to escape her sordid upbringing, she’s built her own business, a thriving nail salon. Her clientele are bored, lonely, wealthy women and spoiled teens. I always thought bartenders and hairdressers heard all the juicy gossip, now I know nail techs top the list. She hears about their affairs, loneliness, the extravagant shopping, their entitled kids. The perfect family facades behind those iron gates of their wealthy estates hold some dastardly secrets. Many of Melinda’s clients live in the same area and know one another. Detective Chief Inspector Sue Fisher is on the case of a young missing teen. Anna is the daughter of one of those elite families. Did she run away, was she kidnapped, is she even still alive?

Natalie Tambini's The Nail Salon had me hooked from page one. The plot centres around a mix of characters devoid of any stereotypes who find reprieve in Melanie's Nail Salon. Told from multiple POVs, this book is fused with multiple unexpected twists and turns and delivers a memorable yet shocking ending. I must admit that this read was darker than most thrillers and police procedurals. Thank you, NetGalley & HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, for providing an e-ARC.

About the author

Natalie Tambini has more than thirty years' experience as a national newspaper and magazine journalist. She created and wrote Cosmopolitan's ‘Confessions’ columns, supplements and books and interviewed countless celebrities during nine years at TV Choice and Total TV Guide – infamously missing a slot with Julia Roberts. Her work has been syndicated worldwide, and she has acted as ghostwriter for several celebrity columnists on women's magazines.

Her fascination with murderers and the need to understand them stems from a childhood passion for Agatha Christie novels while growing up in Norfolk and Hampshire. She has also interviewed many victims of crimes as a real-life journalist, and those who endured miscarriages of justice, including an innocent man who spent 20 years on death row.

Natalie lives in Surrey, where her crime novels are largely set. She is currently a journalist and podcast producer at Hearst UK.
