Fiona Higgins has perfectly captured that moment when a new mother walks through the door of their first mothers' group meeting. Sleep deprived and nervously holding a precious bundle, she looks around hoping for supports, helpful hints and perhaps even friendship. It was certainly that way for me, and I am sure for thousands of other new mums around Australia. This is a great book of exploring a new world of nappies, milk and meeting new friends of this world. A fantastic read.

I read this in one sitting and found it fascinating. The thought that the characters were slightly stereotypical did cross my mind after I finished, but not while I was reading the story. In the end I took from it some lessons and the possibility that I may experience something similar one day.

As a new Mum I was excited to read this book, and I imagine majority of the readers are new mums. So I was disgusted when the book brought death into the story. not something new mums need to read about.
About the author
Fiona Higgins is the author of three novels, Fearless, Wife on the Run and The Mothers' Group, and a memoir, Love in the Age of Drought.
Fiona has qualifications in the humanities and social sciences, and has worked in the philanthropy and not-for-profit sector in Australia for the past seventeen years.
Having recently returned from three years in Indonesia, she now lives in Sydney with her husband and three children.
