About this ebook

Excitement reigns in the second book of the weird western fantasy Tales of the Outlaw Mages series by author Amy Campbell, featuring reluctant heroes, magic cowboys, and found family with a dash of pegasus, magic, and LGBTQ representation.

The price of power is unforgiving, and for one mage, it's a debt paid in chains and despair.

Blaise Hawthorne, a mage with a power that could break the earth, was imprisoned for using his magic to save those he loved. His only hope is an unlikely ally–a charming politician whose promises may be as treacherous as Blaise’s captors. Can Blaise risk trusting the man who offers him a future, or will betrayal shatter their fragile bond?

Effigest is the pulse-pounding second entry in the Tales of the Outlaw Mages series, where the wild allure of the Old West collides with the magic of fantasy. This tale weaves together the threads of found family, LGBTQ+ representation, and the relentless quest for redemption, all set against a backdrop where every spell cast is a gamble of life and death.

I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. It's not an exaggeration when I say that this book has consumed my every waking moment for a month when I first got the ARC to read. I could not put this book down the first day I opened it! It was an instant favorite, and I had to read it twice! This series has everything I've ever wanted in books and is such a delight to find. I was obsessed with anything horse, pegasus, and unicorn based as a child and this is the perfect upgrade into the same fiction reading as an adult! All the charm and delight of friendship and relationships, the fun of having bonds with equines, and the heart-racing suspense of trying to guess how they're going to get out of trouble this time! The poor decisions made from even worse choices, the intimate moments, and the unexpected regret all hit so hard. Absolutely captivating! I keep thinking back to the memorable characters and how hard the emotions hit me as they laughed, cried, and occasionally drank too much. Every turn of the plot I found myself more and more invested in the futures of each of these characters and I'm now eager to recommend this book to all of my friends like we use to share our favorite stories as children. A great read for anyone who has been looking for an equestrian glowup!
