About this ebook

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

"Mark Lanegan-primitive, brutal, and apocalyptic. What's not to love?" NICK CAVE

"A stoned cold classic" IAN RANKIN

'Mark Lanegan writes like he sings, from the pained heart of a damaged soul with brutal honesty' BOBBY GILLESPIE

"Powerfully written and brutally, frighteningly honest" LUCINDA WILLIAMS

A ROUGH TRADE AND MOJO BOOK OF THE YEAR

From the back of the van to the front of the bar, from the hotel room to the emergency room, Mark Lanegan takes us back to the sinister, needle-ridden streets of Seattle, to an alternative music scene that was simultaneously bursting with creativity and saturated with drugs. He tracks the tumultuous rise and fall of Screaming Trees, from a brawling, acid-rock bar band to world-famous festival favourites with an enduring legacy, and tells of his own personal struggles with addiction, culminating in homelessness, petty crime, and the tragic deaths of his closest friends.

Gritty, gripping and unflinchingly raw, SING BACKWARDS AND WEEP is about a man who learned how to drag himself from the wreckage, dust off the ashes, and keep living and creating.

'The most brutally honest rock memoir imaginable' DAILY TELEGRAPH

A story of the life and near death of Mark lanegan. Starting from his youth through to his eventual rebirth from beating heroine. This book follows a dark and twisting path and pulls no punches. As a fan of lanigan I knew very little about him and the things he has done. But I suppose that goes to show it doesn't matter what sort of wonderful beauty you create and bring to the wold. If your family did less than zero for you and your out on your own and find heroine you will turn into your mirror image

A very entertaining read, albeit very grim at times. It serves mainly as a well-documented study of addiction and the author's tendency to violence, substance abuse and perversion, offering at the same time a look into the who-is-who of the 90's Seattle music scene.

Dark, brutal and, at times, wickedly funny. Lanegan has always had a dark sense of humour at the heart of his work and it is evident here. Not for the faint-hearted. A brilliant read. A tale of survival and a lesson in loss.
