About this ebook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this, the extraordinary conclusion of the ice-age epic series, Earth’s Children®, Ayla, Jondalar, and their infant daughter, Jonayla, are living with the Zelandonii in the Ninth Cave. Ayla has been chosen as an acolyte to a spiritual leader and begins arduous training tasks.

Whatever obstacles she faces, Ayla finds inventive ways to lessen the difficulties of daily life, searching for wild edibles to make meals and experimenting with techniques to ease the long journeys the Zelandonii must take while honing her skills as a healer and a leader. And there are the Sacred Caves that Ayla’s mentor takes her to see. They are filled with remarkable paintings of mammoths, lions, and bears, and their mystical aura at times overwhelms Ayla.

But all the time Ayla has spent in training rituals has caused Jondalar to drift away from her. The rituals themselves bring her close to death, but through them Ayla gains A Gift of Knowledge so important that it will change her world.

BONUS: This edition contains a reading guide and an interview with Jean M. Auel.

Sixth in the acclaimed Earth’s Children® series.

My enthusiasm may have waned in the time it took for this book to come out. I remember feeling disappointed years ago that there was more to the story that had yet to be written. The educational aspect and the perspective cavepeople may have had differently were both entertaining and enlightening, so that alone is worth the read. Just wish the element of "more to come" were still present. It seems as though they lived happily ever after from the beginning in this one. Meh.

The joy and wonder I felt with the first three books is gone in this one. It read like an extended museum visit, repeated over and over with different character faces saying how wonderful and special Ayla is. I only regained interest when Danug made a reappearance, but he was only there to re-stage the conflict from book three. Honestly, very disappointed. Three stars for the parts that were interesting (because they were very interesting!), but ultimately repetitive and dull. Not something I expected to read from someone who captured my utmost attention with Clan of the Cave Bear.

I have loved this collection since I first read clan of the cave bear. I absolutely adore ayla and thurst for more, but I am deeply upset about many things in this recent book. A big problem is that many things are retold several times making this a very long boring read. I had to skip much of it to get on with the stry. I personally didn't need to read so much description of where, what, how and so on... and I hated that he cheated on ayla!!!!!!!!!
