I feel I've been through the wringer with this one; my heart pounded more than once - what a read!! Annabel Werner is beyond shocked when her husband dies in a plane crash; living in Switzerland she is far from her home in New York and has no one else to rely on upon herself. Marina Tourneau is looking forward to marrying her perfect man; Grant Ellis is anything she - or anyone else - could ever want in a husband, and giving up her journalism career comes as part of the package. While the couple are in Paris for a rare and romantic break, her boss contacts her with a request to do something secretive while she is there. Does she really want to give up her hard-earned break to get involve in she knows-not-what? And if she does, where will it end? A stunning read, this novel had me glued firmly to the pages and racing through the story, desperate to find out what happens next. I have been riveted by the details .. the only comparison I can make is that it strongly reminds me of The Pelican Brief, with brave journalists and innocent bystanders caught in an investigation they neither wanted or asked for. After a slower beginning while we got to know the characters, the story is very fast-paced and SO exciting! I'm really impressed that it's going to be turned into a tv series starring Rosamund Pike - I'm sure she'll do it great justice and I will certainly make sure not to miss it - even though I know the ending! Beautifully written and extremely well-planned with plenty of twists and turns, I most definitely recommend this book to lovers of a damn good thriller! My thanks to publisher Hodder & Stoughton for my copy via NetGalley. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.
