5 Star Review of Up In Smoke (Hot In Chicago Rookies #1) by Kate Meader From the first chapter, Kate Meader drew me in and had my captivated by the story she wove in her latest series Hot in Chicago Rookies. This is rookie Abby Sullivan and single dad, Lieutenant Roman Rossi’s story and one that ticked all the boxes for me. The writing was strong with characters that are easy to relate to and whose story you cannot help but be drawn to. There was equal amounts of steam and heart; Ms. Meader isn’t afraid to write about characters who are flawed, human if you will. From the first chapter when they met over a piece of Cherry Pie there was a connection between them that only got stronger. After a passionate night, neither expect to see one another again but fate often works in mysterious ways and when Abby reports for duty at her assigned station house she is shocked to learn that Roman is her LT. The banter between these two was witty but it is the development of their relationship that added soul to this story; I loved the relationship that Roman has with his sister and daughter. The secondary characters were entertaining and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

This was a four alarm blazing fire! This was the best story taking my breath away, and putting me firmly on the edge of my seat from the very first delicious meet-cute. I will never be able to think of cherry pie again without picturing these two and their witty and smoldering banter as well as a raging inferno of a first kiss that set every part of me ablaze! And every interaction between the main characters pulls you in more as you can’t wait to experience what’s yet to come. Abby Sullivan has finally graduated from the fire academy. With her father the fire commissioner you would think he would be proud but he isn’t. Her mother died being a fire fighter and he has tried to stop her at every step along the way. But she is not scared this has been her dream to follow in her mother’s footsteps and to work in the same firehouse engine number six! But when she shows up for that first shift she can’t believe that her LT is the man she met over cherry pie at the diner. Roman Rossi moved to Chicago after a devastating divorce. He has full custody of his daughter and lives with his older twin sister. He has moved up in rank since he arrived in Chicago months ago. But this morning He can’t get the gorgeous red head he met the other night out of his head. But when he is interrupted by his new rookie that starts today, he can’t believe his bad luck when he finally learns his mystery woman’s name, Abby Sullivan. Get ready to have your cheeks hurting from smiling through all the delicious, sexy, sweet and intoxicating romance. These two are a pure delight. Kate Meader once again brings the perfect amount of love, lust intertwined in a heart-stopping storyline. I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest in this series. I-click

Abby and Roman sizzle in Up In Smoke by Kate Meader, book one in the Hot in Chicago Rookies series, a new series about rookie Chicago firefighters, an amazing story about a a determined fire fighter rookie and the hot, smexy single dad who couldn’t help but fall his new recruit. From their meet-cute over cherry pie, to discovering he’s her new commander, you can’t help but love this page-turning new series. Abby Sullivan was such an amazing character; strong, determined, and more than capable of holding her own against the boys. Her relationship with her father was heartbreaking to read; I often wanted to slap some sense into him. Roman Rossi was the perfect balance for Abby. His calmness and steadiness were much needed in her life. His snarky relationship with his twin sister was hysterical as was the great support system she provided for him and his daughter, Lena. His grumpy exterior hid some major vulnerabilities, but once he opens up, you get the real Roman. Abby started out strong and although there were times she became unsure and losing confidence, and occasionally her own worst enemy until Roman, or her friends, gave her a reality check. Abby and Roman had an instant attraction, off-the-charts chemistry, sizzled between the sheets, and a magnetic attraction that Abby tried to block. There were times Abby had me wanting to shake her, root for her, cry with her. Abby and Roman will need to deal with their baggage, doubts, insecurities, and conflicting work schedules before finding a way to save their loving relationship. Ms. Meader wrote an emotional, amazing, burn the sheets, insta-attraction romance that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, sizzling chemistry, clever banter, and endearing characters giving Abby and Roman a chance at love and a future together. I highly Up In Smoke to other readers, and I look forward to the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
