About the author
Richard Courant (1888-1972), dopo aver insegnato a Gottinga dal 1920 al 1934, fu professore presso il Dipartimento di matematica della New York University e direttore dell’Institute of Mathematical Sciences che ora porta il suo nome.
Herbert Robbins (1915-2001) insegnò Statistica matematica alla Columbia University e alla Rutgers University.
