About this ebook

Avery Biggs thought her life couldn't get any worse after getting fired and moving back in with her parents. But when a child falls through thin ice on a frozen pond, Avery's world is turned upside down.

After an unlikely hero emerges, Avery finds herself caught between two eligible bachelors, who hate each other: the charming and compassionate local veterinarian, Dr. Noah James, and the mysterious and new-to-town bad boy, Gage Tavish.

As Avery’s complicated love life heats up, she also embarks on a mission to help her best friend win a bitter custody battle against the child's neglectful birth mother.

With her heart on the line and a child's future at stake, Avery must find a way to navigate the tumultuous waters of love, loss, friendship, and family. Get swept up in the drama of the captivating romance novel, Shaded Amethysts.

This book can be read as a standalone, but is much better understood when read as part of the series. Avery feels like she is getting nowhere fast. She is back living with her parents, she is trying to study for the bar exam and she does not have a boyfriend. She does have her nieces and nephew who adore her because she loves to do activities with them. She decides to take them and their dog ice skating at the farm pond where she and their dad used to skate. Avery is met there by her friend, Molly, Molly's husband Grant and their son Scout. Unfortunately an accident occurs and a handsome stranger comes to the rescue. Avery learns that he is the new vet and while she will admit that he is nice to look at they just don't share any sparks. Avery helps another handsome stranger rescue a kitten and with him there are plenty of sparks, but Avery learns that he is an ex-con and she isn't sure about her attraction. After one date, Avery realizes that the vet is not the man for her and she finds herself being drawn closer to the ex-con. Throw in a custody battle, a misunderstanding or two and a few more surprises and you will see why this page turner is a good addition to the Brunswick Bay series. I love almost all of the characters in this series and enjoy reading each installment to learn more. For me it is like returning home and catching up with old friends and making new ones, too. Home after getting fired, Avery didn’t think her life could get any worse when chaos sets in with a child falling through the ice upending her life once again. This brings two exciting men into her life one a bad boy and the other has everything Avery is looking for, the man of her dreams. Can her love life get any more fragmented! Then, tie in the fact she is helping her friend keep her little boy in a custody battle with the birthmother. This story has a lot of drama that keeps you glued to the pages. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This is a sweet underdog love story. Standalone with no cliffhangers, but part of a series. The other couples are in this book so if you like small town series I suggest reading them in order. Avery's life has become a hot mess to the extent that she is living back at home with her parents, her best friend is fighting to keep her son, and she if falling in love with the felon Not the veterinary doctor. Gage has had a crappy life, there is no way the people in this small town will ever except him, much less the beautiful and fun Avery. This is a sweet and fun book with mystery and romance, it's the first book in this series that I have read, but I already purchased the first 2 books to read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

About the author

Ann Omasta is a USA Today bestselling author.

Ann’s Top Ten list of likes, dislikes, and oddities:

1.     I despise whipped cream. There, I admitted it in writing. Let the ridiculing begin.

2.     Even though I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida, and as far north as Maine, I landed in the middle.

3.     If I don't make a conscious effort not to, I will drink nothing but tea morning, noon, and night. Hot tea, sweet tea, green tea––I love it all.

4.     There doesn't seem to be much in life that is better than coming home to a couple of big dogs who are overjoyed to see me. My other family members usually show significantly less enthusiasm about my return.

5.     Singing in my bestest, loudest voice does not make my family put on their happy faces. This includes the big, loving dogs referenced above.

6.     Yes, I am aware that bestest is not a word.

7.     Dorothy was right. There's no place like home.

8.     All of the numerous bottles in my shower must be lined up with their labels facing out. It makes me feel a little like Julia Roberts' mean husband from the movie Sleeping with the Enemy, but I can't seem to control this particular quirk.

9.     I love, love, love finding a great bargain!

10.  Did I mention that I hate whipped cream? It makes my stomach churn to look at it, touch it, smell it, or even think about it. Great––now I'm thinking about it. Ick!
