About the author

Travis Senzaki is the Director of the Center for International Affairs at a university in Japan and works with international students and partner universities around the world on a daily basis.

He previously spent three years working as the first point of contact and reviewer of all MEXT scholarship applications at a large, private university, where he personally reviewed over 500 Embassy Recommended and University Recommended applications and answered thousands of questions.

Since moving to his current university, he launched a series of articles about the MEXT scholarship on his blog, TranSenz (http://www.transenzjapan.com/blog/), and has helped thousands more scholarship applicants through that site. His goal is to help dedicated scholarship applicants overcome confusion about the application process, reduce the role of chance in their success, and realize their dreams of studying in Japan.

He continues to follow the most recent news and application developments regarding the MEXT scholarship, as well as Japanese higher education, in English and Japanese, and share that information with as many people as he can.

Travis is a former international student in Japan and serves as living proof of how studying here can change the course of your life. He did not know a thing about the country before arriving here as a high school student, but he became passionate about Japan’s history and culture, thanks to the care and support of his host families.

Eventually, he moved back to Japan with his wife shortly after the Great Northeast Japan Earthquake in 2011. He is a permanent resident of Japan and lives in Akita with his wife and three children.
