About this ebook

The Kindle best seller returns with the first in a gripping new crime series.

A Stranger. A promise. A deadly game.

Danny and Sharon Evans are desperate for answers. Why did their seemingly happy daughter try to take her own life?

When a stranger approaches Danny, saying he knows who’s to blame, Danny is tempted, despite Sharon’s reservations. And when his new friend offers them revenge, how can he walk away?

But little does Danny know he is being invited to play a terrible game. A game that won't just change lives – it will end them.

DI Joel Norris knows this is no ordinary case when two seemingly unconnected murders hit his desk within a matter of days. But how far is he willing to go to solve the puzzle?

Dark, gripping and unforgettable, The Friend will keep fans of Harlan Coben and Matt Brolly on the edge of their seats.

This is one edge of your seat read. Only the fact that I know it would mean my review would not be published if I did, is preventing me from throwing in a couple of expressive swear words to highlight the tension of this story! I was immediately invested in the story and its characters and was completely engrossed by it. Charlie Gallagher knows how to weave a tale and he had me furiously flicking those pages on my Kindle. It has been expertly plotted, executed and with it being so sinister, definitely makes for a very addictive read. There are a few characters to keep you on your toes but Charlie Gallagher has done a great job of making it clear who each are and the role that they play. I really felt for Danny’s character and he really pulled on my heartstrings. Charlie Gallagher is a new author to me and The Friend has been such a great introduction to his work. Given his background as a police officer, he knows his stuff and has produced a very real, compelling and terrifying read. The Friend is a very dark actioned packed thriller that will definitely get your heart pumping. A tale of manipulation, revenge and justice, it is a must read for crime thriller fans. It was a pleasure to read and review The Friend which I recommend.

As parents, Danny and Sharon are devastated with their daughter attempted to take her own life. She had always seemed to happy ... hr parents just don't understand. A stranger accosts Danny telling him he knows who to blame. Their new friend offers them a chance of revenge. Danny is all for it ... Sharon has some reluctance. But Danny really know who this new friend is. The friend has his own agenda ... and it just might be more dangerous than he thinks. DI Joel Norris is called on to investigate when 2 murders are committed within days of each other. Seemingly unrelated.. but there is doubt. And Norris is known for following his gut .. no matter the danger. This one is fraught with suspense beginning with the very first page. This may not be for everyone, as it explores child cruelty. Some scenes are a bit on the graphic side. The author spent several years as a UK police officer. As such, I expected a great deal of credibility .. and I was not disappointed. Many thanks to the author / Avon Books UK / Netgalley for the digital copy of THE FRIEND. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

About the author

Charlie Gallagher was a serving UK police officer for thirteen years. During that time, he had many roles, starting as a frontline response officer, then a member of a specialist tactical team and later as a detective investigating the more serious offences. His books are a series of thrillers and, rather unsurprisingly, policing is central to the stories. He lives with his family on the south coast of Kent.
