About this ebook

The New York Times bestselling author of Silver Thaw returns to Mystic Creek in a novel about a love that inspires the courage to start over…and the strength to reclaim a dream.

When Taffeta Brown was viciously betrayed by her wealthy husband, she lost everything—including custody of their daughter, Sarah. Now that Taffy has moved to Mystic Creek, Oregon, to start over, she unexpectedly meets the one man who might help her get Sarah back.

Barney Sterling, a local lawman, finds himself drawn to the lovely, guarded Taffy, but he’s stunned by her proposition—that they marry immediately to improve her chances of regaining custody of her daughter. Barney takes marriage too seriously to commit himself to a woman he hardly knows. Yet soon his sympathies fall with the desperate Taffy, and pretending to be in love becomes the easiest part of the plan. But they have no idea what they’re up against, or what they’re willing to risk to make a miracle come true in Mystic Creek.

We get to visit Mystic Creek and the Sterling family again. This time, Barney is up to bat. Taffeta is new in town, and has opened a health food store but tries to just blend in and in no way stand out. Barney is one of the town's deputies and gets called to Taffeta's house for disturbing the peace. The story builds from there. We eventually learn that Taffeta is living moment to moment after loosing her daughter in a custody battle with her ex husband. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Taffeta approaches Barney with a proposal. The story progresses from there with all the conflict, romance and resolutions we have come to expect out of this very gifted author. My disappointment in this book comes from not really interacting more with Barney's family. I missed seeing how Jeb and Amanda are doing with their new family. We do see a little bit more out of Ben in this book, and his reaction to another new comer to town. So, me thinks this will be Mystic Creek #3 novel! Another winner under Catherine's belt!
