There were some things I liked about this book but quite a few that annoyed me, including the main character's relationship with her boss which took up a lot of oxygen and made me feel at times I was reading a stereotypical romance rather than a mystery. I'm not a fan of books that employ even part-time viewpoint of the killer/abuser. It's so seldom handled well or credibly and in this case I don't think it is believable. I have to confess to skipping over or ultra-speed reading part of the action scenes with threats to the main character, I just didn't feel like experiencing the minutiae of these scenes. The police procedural part of the book was quite well handled and I liked the main crime and investigation scenario which was behind the unique set-up in "The Close" where the detectives spent most of their time in the book. The community of The Close and the social relationships there were quite interesting.
