Georgina and Oscar's Story . . . Oscar Banyan, the former mayor of Wellington, is trying to get custody of his nephew, baby Oliver, from his irresponsible sister Constance who didn’t even know she was pregnant and can hardly care for herself. Her mental and physical health could prove dangerous to the baby’s welfare. To get that custody, however, he needs to show he is in a committed relationship. So he practically blackmails the woman he feels owes him something big, his ex-wife Kayla’s divorce lawyer, Georgina Swofford. As a family lawyer, this was the one case in her career that Georgina regretted. Without a full understanding of the situation, not realizing his ex-wife lied about his abusing her when she got caught cheating, she almost put Oscar in ruin and prison five years ago. Now he needs her help by pretending to be engaged to him for a few weeks so he can get custody of the baby. While they argued over the phone about some new terms Georgina wanted to add, Constance went into labor. Oscar told her he needed her immediate agreement which would mean she would meet him at the hospital and begin the fake relationship. But at the hospital, he called her a bitter old maid and she stormed out. A flat tire and her not having her keys gave him a chance to talk with her again and they finally agreed just as the phone rang to notify him about the emergency C-section when the baby showed signs of distress. Finally with the crisis over, they left the hospital and started on the long to-do list to officially get ready. They move in together and begin the charade. But as they learn more about each other, and experience being with each other, they start to have feelings for each other. After all they have been through, can he ask her to stay? Will he tell her how he feels about her? Does she feel the same?

Well now, this is a slightly different twist on the marriage of convenience theme. Oscar and Georgie are two people that badly need to have their faith in love reaffirmed. To be shown that love is real, and that they each deserve it. Having been on opposing sides of Oscar’s contentious divorce, they’re also channeling the enemies-to-lovers vibe, and I really appreciated that it was a slow build getting them to that point. There’s a lot of emotion invested in this book, and I think that might be what made it my favorite of the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.

It was a little rough pulling me into the story in the beginning, but then it just took off. I liked how Georgina is a strong smart woman, and not a whimpering fool. I really liked how it became apparent that Oscar and Georgina were a lot alike. It amazed me how the author could take some sad storylines and really present them as upbeat and light enough to enjoy reading. I do also wish that I would have found out more about why Georgina hadn't been in a serious relationship for 20 years, it felt like it was just glossed over. As well as Oscar not dating at all in the last 5 years. I want to read the other books in the series now. I wish the book had been a little longer and I would have been privy to some of the problems that they had when they met 5 years ago. Overall a fun read, and I can't wait to read more. Includes a HEA and no cheating. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
