About this ebook

The legendary space opera that kicked off the ground-breaking, universe-spanning series.

Nine hundred thousand years ago, something wiped out the Amarantin. For the human colonists now settling their homeworld, their predecessors are of little interest, even after the discovery of a long-hidden, almost perfect Amarantin city.

For brilliant and ruthless scientist Dan Sylveste, the long-dead race are more than a merely intellectual curiosity - and he will stop at nothing to get at the truth of their demise.

But the Amarantin were wiped out for a reason, and the danger is closer and greater than even Sylveste can imagine...

REVELATION SPACE: a huge, magnificent space opera that ranges across the known and unknown universe ... towards the most terrifying of destinations.

Absolutely incredible, science fiction at it's best. I've read a lot of the great sci-fi authors and had been working my way round to Reynolds on several recommendations, and my word he does not disappoint. Its packed full of everything you could want, all the fascinating future reality, ancient alien species, conceptual tech that has a superbly plausible grounding in science, edge of the seat action and thoughtful character insights, with a uniquely wry humour threading through an intricate plotline. It all comes together in a headlong, fast-paced rush to an entertaining finish that ties up just enough whilst leaving you begging for more. Love it. Onto the next!

Well defined characters and an engaging story with a clear sense of world building. Occasionally infuriating tactics of deliberately withholding plot points felt a little cheap, though, and some of the prose dipped into 'hard' Sci fi. I'll most likely check out the next book, though.

Unfortunately this book did not captivate me. I enjoyed reading it, and really liked some of the concepts, scope and story. I will read the next books out of curiosity. I just couldn't 'get the feel' for it. Which is a shame as there is definalty a 'vibe'/'feel' there. Give it a go, you could get stuck on it
