About this ebook

Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg - an awkward maths prodigy and a painfully shy computer genius - were never going to fit in at elite, polished Harvard. Yet that all changed when master-hacker Mark crashed the university's entire computer system by creating a rateable database of female students. Narrowly escaping expulsion, the two misfits refocused the site into something less controversial - 'The Facebook' - and watched as it spread like a wildfire across campuses around the country, along with their popularity.

Yet amidst the dizzying levels of cash and glamour, as silicon valley, venture capitalists and reams of girls beckoned, the first cracks in their friendship started to appear, and what began as a simple argument spiralled into an out-and-out war. The great irony is that Facebook succeeded by bringing people together - but its very success tore two best friends apart.

It's not a good book, but rather small. I'm used to reading books to reading books that have a lot more details. In the case of this book, certain issues or events seem to have been just skipped over, and other events described in great detail. I wish it was that every event was described in great detail. Whatever is described is written very well, I just wish there was more of it. For once, I'll say the the film (The social network) is better than the book.

The Social Network was based on this book and it's a good read. Though neither are likely a 100% true, accurate and fair representation of the beginnings of Facebook, this seems to be a more accurate and reliable a source than the aforementioned film.

After finishing this book, I would like to question the validity of the sources used. Unlike some books that chronical past events, this book is not based on first hand experience; but rather, a collection of anonymous witnesses which suggests that the set pieces may seem fragmented. Due to this, one must question the accuracy of the events; were they dramatised for suspense in the book? All in all, the book is an interesting read giving an educated glimpse into the pitfalls and triumphs of Facebook.
