About this ebook

Who is Henri Pirenne

He was a historian from Belgium named Henri Pirenne. In addition to becoming a notable public thinker, he was a medievalist of Walloon heritage. He produced a history of Belgium in French that was published in multiple volumes. An interpretation of the end of Roman civilization and the beginning of the resuscitation of medieval urban culture was one of the most controversial contributions that Pirenne made to the study of cities. This explanation stood the test of time. Additionally, he rose to prominence as a member of the nonviolent resistance movement against the German occupation of Belgium during World War I.
