About this ebook

The primary objective of this book is to provide designers with a set of analysis and design specifications for soil-steel bridges and culverts, also called flexible structures. Brief but informative, this guide is based on a quick look up approach to code applications, design and analysis methods/calculations as well as applications and solved examples. The book addresses the unique aspects of soil-steel bridges: design and analysis as well as examples of applications, numerical analysis and modeling techniques, corrosion and durability problems, service life and maintenance, and impact of moving loads.

About the author

Damian Beben, PhD, D.Sc., Eng., is Associate Professor at the Opole University of Technology, in Opole, Poland. He is the author of two books and over 140 publications, including 24 articles published in journals covered by the Journal Citation Index. He has conducted invited lectures at universities in Pretoria, Seoul, Salerno, Pavia, La Coruna, Brno, Faro and Zilina. He has received numerous scholarships, including the Foundation for Polish Science (2005, 2006) and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (2010-2013), and he has been awarded the 2011 Outstanding Reviewer from the ASCE for his contribution to the development of the Journal of Bridge Engineering. He was a member of the scientific committees of over 30 international conferences and seven scientific journals. In addition, he is an expert of the Polish National Center for Research and Development and HORIZON 2020.
