Quando il giovane astronomo Svir Hedrig incontra l'enigmatica Tatja Grimm, non immagina la scoperta che sta per fare. Sul suo mondo tutti leggono la rivista "Fantasie", proprio come qui da noi tutti leggono "Urania", ma l'unica collezione completa della mitica testata (vecchia di settecento anni) sta per essere distrutta. Il responsabile è Tar Benesh, tirannico reggente di Crownesse, e basta questo a spingere Svir ad accettare di immergersi in una pericolosa avventura. Ben presto, quella che era cominciata come una nobile impresa in nome della stampa si tramuta in una cruenta lotta per il potere a causa degli oscuri disegni di Tatja, ma il vero pericolo è altrove. Forse è nell'avvicinarsi del tempo della "raccolta", fra i non meno oscuri disegni di una grande civiltà interstellare...
